Atelier Kids is your source for everything childcare. We believe each child is born creative, intuitive, resourceful, and with a strong potential for development from a very young age.

We want to share with you our progress in developing the centre, provide insights into innovative storybooks and toys, share creative ideas from our atelier, and give a shout-out to a community event that’s likely to pique your interest.

We’re glad you’re here…

Art has the role in education; of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else. — Reggio-inspired thought

Brick-by-Brick: The building of our centre

It’s hard to not judge a book by its cover, right? And in the case of our Atelier Kids centre, nothing could be truer at this moment as the structural steel of the centre is an absolute beauty and a hugely successful step in our progress toward completion! Atelier Kids Early Learning and Care is being renovated with the utmost attention to detail such as the steel, (not wood), structural reinforcement and the latest technology for the highest fire-rating and all-weather protection a structure can attain. Like our bodies, these structural steel frames are the bones of the architecture that will make the difference in support over time. As we rebuild this home with respect to the neighbourhood streetscape, we look forward to documenting the progress inside and out. More to come!

AK Curiosity Corner

Every night, tiny stars appear out of the darkness in little Sandy’s bedroom. She catches them and creates wonderful creatures to play with until she falls asleep, and in the morning brings them back to life in the whimsical drawings that cover her room.
This delightfully unsettling tale is told with humor and imagination and is illustrated with jewel-like panels and lots of white space. There are rewarding details to be found in every scene, especially in the lush landscapes, both real and imagined, and in the drawings within drawings. Young readers, especially young artists, will gobble this up.

Into the Atelier

At Atelier Kids, art is the chosen medium to represent children’s thinking. I’m Joan, the Atelierista on staff to help make the learning experience “visible” through the many graphic languages of the children. It’s here, “In the Atelier”, that we peek into the studio and explore the type of provocations that even at home, you can create and discover. In the next issue of our newsletter, I will go step-by-step in creating these pictured little treasures. In Reggio, it’s not about the art, it’s about providing children with the tools to express their ideas, to share what they are thinking, doing, feeling, learning, and experiencing. I can’t wait to open the doors to the atelier with you! — joan.

Insight into Pedagogy: Listening to Children, by Alison Randall, Pedagogista
Listening is central to all that is Reggio-inspired. We believe whole-heartedly that children are capable, curious citizens who have much to offer our world. Often more than adults, children naturally search for meaning in their world every day: “Why do leaves change colour?”, “Why do they fall to the ground?”, “Why does the wind blow them?”, and “Where do they go”?
